Black Immigrant Organizing

Atlanta has the third highest population of African Immigrants, with Afro-Caribbean communities growing. Though only 10% of all immigrants nationally, Black immigrants are five times (5x) more likely to be detained and deported. Facing parallel challenges as Black Americans, Black immigrants and refugees represent a critical element in developing a powerful and organized Black Diaspora in metro-Atlanta. In addition to engaging Black immigrants in other initiatives, OHRD organizes forums where Black Americans and Black Immigrants & Refugees can come together to reflect and act on issues of mutual concern.
